Back to our normal routine

We are finally back to our normal routine since Hurricane Ike made landfall 2 weeks ago. I finally went back to work on Monday and Mark went back on Thursday. The Mavericks are also back in their routine too... they lost last night to the Dawson Eagles - 12-7.
Bear - ready for the Texas A&M game.

Continuous Converage of Hurricane Ike's Impact

Bear swimming in the bath tub.

Well, it has been 4 days since Hurricane Ike made landfall. Here is a timeline of the last 4 to 5 days.

Friday - lost power at 7:30 p.m. (in the middle of watching Dexter season 2)

Saturday - Hurricane makes landfall. The wind was horrible and then the rain came. We woke up and saw roofing shingles in our front yard. Luckily, they were not from our house. We only had one shingle flip up and our back fence was starting to lean. (Mark has already fixed it). We got our power back around 7:00 p.m.

Sunday - Power goes back off. Luckily, a cold front started to blow through. Power comes back on mid-afternoon. Eleanor, Rene, and the boys came over. They had no power or water pressure.

Monday - Mark worked on my puppet theatre for school. I cleaned up the flower beds and worked around the house. My parents and my sister's family came over for dinner (both households do not have power). Smoke detectors go off at 11:30 p.m. for no reason.

Today - Mark and I got our Internet back and started our homework. Made a road trip to Sealy to get out the house and find a grocery store with food.

As of this morning, my sister will probably not have power for another 2 to 3 weeks. My parents also do not have power. My brother also does not have power; he lives in Madisonville - the whole town does not have power. We have been freezing water in ice cream buckets so they will continue to have ice.

Mark does not have to report back to school until Monday, September 22nd and I do not report back until Friday, September 19th.

I know that the picture has nothing to do with the Hurricane, but I thought it would make you smile. Every time we start the water in the tub, Bear is trying to jump in and go for a swim.

Please keep my family in your prayers.

Hurricane Ike Continues

As the storm got worse, Mark had to sacrifice himself to protect the house, Bear, and me. We ran out of hurricane clips and he had to hold up the plywood during the storm. As I am posting this, he is yelling at me to bring him a Pepsi.

Hurricane Ike

Hurricane Ike is treating us well. Mark went outside and barely was able to hold on through part of the storm. Luckily the fruit cart he built was there for support.

Tessa's Butterfly

Tessa,
We saw your butterfly today. It thanked you for taking very good care of it.

7 years

Both Mark and I started our 7th year of teaching this past week. It was a long week, but it went well. It was my 2nd year in the library and I think that the library is in a lot better shape now, than a year ago. Manvel had their first varsity football game this past Thursday - they lost.

A loooong month...

We're married!
Everything went off without a hitch on Saturday, June 14th.
Then we left for NYC and spent 6 days there.
Then we got to be home for a few days and then we were off to Minnesota.
In the past month, we got married, traveled to not only several states, but Canada as well, and eaten a lot of great food.
We both can't wait to get home and just sit around the house.
Pictures will follow later.

The Countdown Begins...

5 weeks

Mark's Success

Mark finally had success with his seedlings. All of the above pictures he started from seeds in the garage. Both are a type of trellising plant and we know that they blue ones are Morning Glories.

Sledding in Minnesota!

During our Christmas break, we spent 6 days with Mark's family in Minnesota.
I finally got to see some snow!!
We went sledding twice, the first day left me with bruises up and down my body because of the icy hill at Mark's grandma's house. The second day was a lot better (at Mark's parent's house) and I had a lot of fun! The pictures are from the second day we went and as you can tell from the first picture we crashed quite a bit, but we eventually made it down the hill a few times.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
